When practices make the move from ICD-9 to ICD-10, the learning curve will be quite steep. Aside from having to master the ins and outs of a more vast and specific code set, administrative and clinical staff will also have to translate common ICD-9 codes to ICD-10. Much more than a simple substitution, code mapping requires a significant amount of advanced planning and training.
